A DISCUSSION ON KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT APPLIED TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: CASE STUDIES

ÁREA: 01. Strategy and Enterpreneurship / 01.6. Social Responsibility, EnvironmentandSustainability
AUTORES: JENIFFER DE NADAE ;MARLY MONTEIRO DE CARVALHO

sustainability, knowledge management process, brazilian companies.

Discussions on sustainability have increasingly intensified, seeking to develop knowledge to enhance sustainable development as well as competitive advantage for firms. In this context, this study aims to map the main activities in the area of sustainability in the two companies visited under the perspective of the knowledge management process (knowledge creation, storage, dissemination, utilization and measurement). The research design is based on systematic literature review on sustainability and knowledge management and multiple case studies. Two case studies were carrying out in three large companies in Brazil: a financial company and a educational company. The cases were analysed considering documental data analysis, such as procedures and companies' websites and semi-structured interviews with the correspondent heads of the sustainability areas. The discussion on the adoption the knowledge management process to structure the company's activities related to the sustainable development points out some difficulties for the firms, from which possible improvements and next researches can derive. One of the challenges faced by the companies studied is in the dissemination phase, since it is both critical to the sustainable development that the internal people are informed and convinced of the importance of the sustainability, as well as that the external stakeholders are involved to ensure the improvement of the firm's image.

AUTORES: MASOOD FATHI ;M. JESUS ALVAREZ ;VICTORIA RODRIGUEZ CHACON

part feeding problem, goal programming, scheduling problem

The part feeding problem (PFP) is a major issue in most industry. The PFP is a special case of the scheduling problem, where the optimum number of parts and the best time for delivering the parts to the production line needs be found. In this study, a goal programming (GP) model that is based on a new mathematical model is presented. To validate the model presented here, a real problem taken from a case study in the automobile industry has been solved. The GP model solution was then compared to the solution given by the initial mathematical model, and it was found that the GP model is the more effective and applicable solution for the part feeding problem.

scheduling, parallel machines, sequence-dependent setup times, jobs compatibility constraints, heuristics

In this paper we consider the problem of scheduling a set of independent jobs with sequence-dependent setup times and jobs compatibility constraints on a set of parallel machines such that maximum completion time (makespan) is minimized. For this NP-hard problem, we present a variable neighborhood search (VNS) heuristic. The performance of the heuristic is tested on 60 instances with different sizes and on a real instance from an auto parts industry.

investment, bovespa, rough sets

Compose a stock portfolio with stocks in an uptrend is a great challenge for investors. One tool that may indicate to investors which most favorable set of stocks becomes a great ally in this market of constant instability that is the stock market. This work suggests the use of Rough Sets Theory in reducing attributes (stocks) of a portfolio investment on the Stock Exchange of S?o Paulo (portfolio of Ibovespa) aiming to identify a set of stocks with good prospects for profitability. Application of Rough Sets is favorable in solving problems like finding dependency between attributes and patterns among the data, characteristics of the stock market. The results of this study are favorable to the use Rough Sets Theory, which makes available applying this technique on the Stock Exchange.

ground handling, multi fleet assignment, airport operations, fuzzy modelling

In this communication the ground handling fleet management problem at airports is considered with the aim of improving aircraft service at arrival and departure while the operational cost of the ground service fleets is taken into account. The complexity of the considered problem, as well as, operational considerations lead to propose an on-line decentralized management structure where the criticality of each aircraft demand for service is evaluated using a particular fuzzy formalism. Then after detailing the assumed collaborative scheme between ground handling fleet managers, airlines and airport authorities, a heuristic approach is proposed to solve this multi fleet assignment problem. A case study considering a large airport is discussed.

Since its inception the oil activity by its very nature is picky when it comes to capital management. Risk management due to the volatility of crude oil prices, the efficiency of companies and the choice of appropriate capital structure are ingredients for adopting essential financial strategies to the firm´s survival. Oil and gas companies make great investments and many risks are presents their core activity, therefore, analysis of the dynamic adjustment is a fertile field for research in the area of ??capital structure both in Brazil and other countries. This research verified the significant factors in the choice of the capital structure of the 54 oil and gas companies around the world and measured their speed of adjustment according to geographic region. We realize that although they are companies with operations spread around the world according to their location have different speeds of adjustment due transaction costs heterogeneous.

evaluation of royalties. royalties. ifdm health

In Brazil, says that if the proceeds of royalties are not applied properly. However, this statement leads us to question whether the result produced by the actions promoted by the State government, offered to population and financed with resources coming from oil royalties are up to the amount of the royalties. In the northeastern state of Rio de Janeiro, local governments receive funds from oil royalties. It is unclear, however, whether the application of these features is effective to improve the quality of life and health of the population. Public actions of the municipalities are primarily those that determine the social order based on the generation of employment and income and the application of financial resources in health and education, which may serve as a paradigm for comparisons with results from other regions of the country, or other municipalities in the same state or in other states. This study aims to analyze qualitatively the collection of oil royalties, establishing a comparation between the results of Index FIRJAN Municipal Development - Health of the municipalities of Macae and Rio das Ostras, reflected in human development and the improvement of health of the population.

The purpose this study was use the NIRS and multivariate calibration methods for the direct determination of tannins and moisture in bark of Acacia mearnsii. Samples were collected in a reforestation area from state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and the infrared spectra were acquired in triplicate directly on inside of each sample bark, and Partial least squares (PLS), interval PLS (iPLS) and synergy interval PLS (siPLS) models were development. The results presented for tannin, using reference method, indicate that the concentration ranged from 7.9 ? 0.2% and 20.9 ? 0.4% (w/w, wet weight basis). For moisture, using reference method, a less variation, between 55.3% and 62.8% (w/w wet weight basis). The results predicted by iPLS and siPLS models no presented significant differences (P>0.05) of the obtained by reference methodologies. In the proposed methodology is not necessary sample preparation, resulting in shorter analysis time and no use of reagents. These advantages may contribute to their deployment as a quantitative method for tannin and moisture determination, allowing industry have an better control over the tannin manufacturing process as well as assist in the purchase of raw materials and in stock management in industry and of the forests of Acacia mearnsii.

ÁREA: 02. OR, Modelling and Simulation / 02.3. Operations Research
AUTORES: GERALDO GALDINO DE PAULA JUNIOR ;CAROLINE NASCIMENTO PARAJARA

grasp, location problem, p-median problem

This paper reports the experience in designing, building and testing a new procedure for the reactive GRASP, aimed at solving the general, uncapacitated p-medians location problem. Two parameters are used to control the reaction in the search for solutions in the construction phase of the GRASP. The simultaneous use of two reactive parameters allowed to create a discipline for allocating customers to clusters of the medians: customers closer, are allocated first. The procedure established is the prelude to a real application, under development, to improve the logistics of a chemical industry. The application under development will use the capacitated version of the plant location problem addressed in this work, with modifications to include the modeling of single source. Computational Experiments were done with the algorithm developed and presented here, using data from the Beasley OR library. The results are interesting, confirming the good reputation of this metaheuristic and expanding the space it occupies in the solution of combinatorial problems of medium and large sizes that often appear in the economy.
