Naomi J. Brookes

Naomi began her career in the aerospace industry in the UK as a manufacturing engineer. She worked with Rolls-Royce in a variety of operations management and design management roles, concluding with a corporate internal consultancy role reviewing the way that designers and manufacturers work together right at the start of the product development process. During her time at Rolls-Royce, she took the unusual step of combining her work roles with studying for her PhD at Imperial College.

Naomi then worked as an academic in the UK, first in the Wolfson School of Engineering at Loughborough University and now at Aston Business School. Naomi's research has focused on best practice in project management especially in new product development projects. She has undertaken research projects for the UK government's research councils, the European Union, the British Council and a wide variety of multinational companies and SMEs. She is currently establishing the 'Aston Centre for Project Management Practice' a unique centre which aims to inculcate a true 'community of practice' for project management practitioners and researchers. She has over fifty publications and publishes in journals such as the International Journal of Production Research, the IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, The Proceedings of the I.MechE and the International Journal of Project Management.

Naomi has also established her own research consultancy business. This focuses on the ways that universities and industries interact to support economic development. In this capacity, Naomi has worked on a series of projects in funded by Regional Development Agencies within the UK to map the competencies of universities and compare them to the needs of key industrial clusters.
