The Brazilian Journal of Operations and Production Management (BJOPM) was established in the end of 2003 as an initiative of a former president of the Brazilian Association of Production Engineering (ABEPRO - Associação Brasileira de Engenharia de Produção), Prof. Nivaldo Lemos Coppini and the board of ABEPRO's directors. The main purpose was to create a referred journal in English, the main global academic language. Therefore, it would be possible to outlet research of the Brazilian academic community in production engineering and operations management. One volume, with one issue, was published in 2004 and since then it has been published twice a year. Besides ABEPRO, a number of institutions have supported the BJOPM among which Brazilian National Research Council (CNPq) and Fundação Carlos Alberto Vanzolini. The journal has been recognized by CAPES (Engenharias III) - a Brazilian government agency - as 'National A" since its beginning.
Our challenge now is to gain wide acceptance and recognition by the academic community abroad.
